Updated
Announcements is a group where only the circle's admins can post. It's for news from the people who run the circle: a water shutdown, an AGM date, a maintenance notice.
How it works
- Everyone is in it. Every member of the circle is in Announcements, always. Nobody can be taken out of it, and you can't leave it on its own.
- Only admins can ever send. Members can read and react, but there's no message box for them.
- It can't be retired. Admins can't archive or delete it like other groups.
Not every circle has one. Announcements is offered when a circle is started, but it starts unticked, so it's there only if the owner chose it.
Where to find it
Getting told about announcements
If a circle is noisy, you can set it to Notices & mentions. You'll still be told about announcements and when someone tags you, but not every message. See Notification levels for a circle.
Replying to an announcement
You can't reply inside Announcements. To ask about one, write in General, or reply privately to the admin who posted it.
Admin-only groups that aren't Announcements
Admins can also set any other group so that Only admins can send messages. Those groups work the same way for posting, but members can choose to join or leave them. See Create and manage groups.
