Create, archive and delete groups in a circle

Groups are smaller chats inside a circle, such as Block A, Parking or the festival committee. A circle can have up to 20 groups, counting General.

Create a group

1. Start a new group

   In the app, open the circle and tap + New group, or tap + on the Circles tab › New group and pick the circle. On the website, open the circle's Groups and choose + New group.

2. Name it

   Group name is up to 40 characters. What is it for? is optional, up to 200.

3. Choose who can join

   Open: any circle member can join with a tap. Private: people ask, and an admin lets them in. Either way, only people in the group can read it.

4. Choose who can send

   Turn on Only admins can send for a notice board. Everyone can still read, react and vote.

5. Add people and create

   Under Who is in it, tap Choose. Everyone you add is told, and can leave. Then tap Create the group.

Admins can always create groups. Members can if Create groups is open to everyone in Circle permissions, and they then run the groups they start.

Change a group

In the app, open the group and tap its name at the top, or ⋯ › Group info & settings. There you can rename it (its link keeps working), change its picture or description, see Members, Add people, Remove someone, or share Invite to this group, a link that brings people into the circle and straight into this group.

Order, archive and delete (app)

In the app, tap the gear › Groups.

• Press and hold a group to move it up or down.
• Swipe left › Archive hides it from members but keeps its messages. Archived groups are listed at the bottom with Restore.
• Swipe left › Delete removes the group, its messages and photos for good. It shows how many members and messages it affects before you confirm.
• NEW MEMBERS JOIN sets, per group, whether new circle members are Always on, Added automatically or join Only if they choose.
• The Requests tab lists people asking to join private groups, with Approve and Decline.

General and Announcements can't be archived or deleted, and nobody can be taken out of them. See The Announcements group and Join, request and leave groups.
