Reply, reply privately, forward or copy a message
Quote a message in your reply, answer someone privately, forward a message to up to 5 groups, or copy its text.

Press and hold a message in the app, or open its menu on the website, to reply to it, forward it to other groups or copy its text.
Reply
Pick the message
In the app, press and hold it and tap Reply, or swipe it to the right. On the website, choose Reply from its menu.Write your reply
The message you're answering shows above the box. Tap Stop replying to drop it.Send
Your reply carries a small quote. Anyone can tap the quote to jump to the original.
Reply privately (app)
Reply privately opens your personal chat with the sender, with their message quoted in the box. Nothing is sent until you tap Send. Personal chats are only for people who follow each other, see Direct messages.
Forward
Choose Forward
In the app, hold the message and tap Forward to another group. On the website, choose Forward.Pick where it goes
Pick up to 5 groups or chats you're in.Send
The copy is marked Forwarded. It doesn't link back to the original group, so people who aren't in that group still can't see it.
Copy and save
- Copy (app) or Copy text (website) puts the words on your clipboard, ready to paste into WhatsApp or anywhere else.
- Save keeps the message in the circle's Saved messages, handy for a plumber's number or the society bank details. See Saved messages.

Common questions
How many groups can I forward a message to at once?
Up to 5 groups or chats in one go.
Does the person know I forwarded their message?
The copy is marked Forwarded. It goes only to the groups you pick, and the original group is not shown to people outside it.
How do I reply to one person privately from a group chat?
In the app, press and hold their message and tap Reply privately. It opens your personal chat with them, as long as you follow each other.
