Edit or delete a chat message

You can edit your own message for 15 minutes after sending it, and delete it for everyone for 2 days. Admins can delete any message at any time.

Edit a message

1. Open the message's options

   In the app, press and hold your message. On the website, open its menu.

2. Tap Edit

   Change the words.

3. Tap Save

   The message now shows Edited.

After 15 minutes, Edit is no longer offered. If you try, you'll be told it was said more than 15 minutes ago and can't be edited, but you can delete it instead.

Delete a message

1. Open the message's options

   Press and hold it in the app, or open its menu on the website.

2. Tap Delete for everyone

   You'll be asked to confirm. This can't be undone.

Everyone in the group then sees “This message was deleted” in its place. You see “You deleted this message”.

You can delete your own message for everyone within 2 days of sending it. After that, only an admin can remove it.

Admins

Admins can delete any message in their circle, whenever it was sent. Members then see “Deleted by an admin” in its place. This is the usual way to clear spam or something that breaks the circle's rules. See Manage members for muting or removing the person.

A message that never sent

A message stuck with Couldn't send can be removed by pressing and holding it and choosing to delete the unsent message. See Send a message.
