Updated
Ticks under your message show whether it has been sent, delivered and seen. In a group, Seen by tells you exactly who has read it.
What the ticks mean
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Sending | Still on its way from your phone. |
| Sent | Zinola has it. |
| Delivered | It has reached everyone in the group. |
| Seen | Everyone in the group has read it. |
On the website the same states read Sent, Delivered to everyone and Read by everyone.
See who has read it
Open the message's options
In the app, press and hold your message, or tap its ticks. On the website, open its menu.Tap Seen by
You'll see who has read it under READ, and who has it but hasn't read it yet under DELIVERED. On the website these are Read by and Delivered to.
In a big group, the message may show a count such as “Seen by 14” before everyone has read it.
Typing
When someone is writing, you'll see “Ravi is typing…” in the chat. With two people it names both, and with more it gives a count.
Connection
If your phone goes offline, the chat title shows Connecting… or Waiting for network. New messages and ticks catch up once you're back. A message that couldn't go shows Couldn't send · Tap to retry. See Send a message.
For how unread messages are marked, see Unread messages and jumping around.
