Most deals between neighbors go smoothly. A few simple habits keep it that way, whether you're buying or selling.
Before you meet
- Keep the chat on Zinola. Your number stays hidden in an enquiry, and you have a record of what you agreed. Share your number only once you're comfortable.
- Look at the person, not just the item. Tap their name to see their profile, how long they've been on Zinola, and any circles you share. See What's on a profile.
- Ask questions. Ask for more photos, the condition and the reason for selling. A genuine seller won't mind.
When you meet
Agree a time and place in the chat
Use Schedule pickup so the time and place are on record.Meet somewhere safe
Pick a public spot or your society's gate in daylight, and tell someone where you're going.Check before you pay
Look the item over and switch it on if it's electronic.Pay and close the deal
Pay with UPI from the chat, then the seller taps Received and Mark sold.
Signs of a scam
- Someone asks for a “deposit”, “token amount” or courier charge before you've seen the item.
- A buyer sends a UPI “collect” request or a QR code and says you'll receive money by scanning it. You never need to enter your UPI PIN to receive money.
- Pressure to move to WhatsApp straight away, or to pay outside the chat.
- A price that's far too low, or a seller who can't meet in person.
If something goes wrong
Open the listing or the person's profile, tap ⋯ and choose Report. You can also block them. See Report a post, person or message and Block or unblock someone. If you've lost money, report it to your bank and to the cyber crime helpline on 1930 as soon as you can.
Common questions
Is it safe to buy from strangers on Zinola?
Most deals are between neighbors and go fine. Keep the chat on Zinola, meet somewhere public, check the item, and only then pay.
Do I need to enter my UPI PIN to receive money?
No. You only enter your UPI PIN to send money. Anyone who asks you to enter it to receive a payment is trying to scam you.
What should I do if I was cheated on Zinola?
Report the person and the listing from the ⋯ menu, and block them. If you lost money, call your bank and the cyber crime helpline on 1930 straight away.
