Why does Zinola ask my gender and birthday?

Your gender and date of birth are private. Why Zinola asks for them, who can see them, and how to change them.

Zinola asks for your gender and date of birth when you join. They're private: they're never shown on your profile, and only you can see them.

Why we ask

To word the app to you. If you pick the Friendly language style, Zinola uses them to choose how to greet you, such as “anna” or “akka”. See Language style and what we call you.
To wish you on your birthday.
To check your age. You must be at least 13 to use Zinola. If you're under 18, you need a parent's or guardian's consent.

We don't use them for advertising. Zinola shows no ads.

Open About you
In the app, tap your photo › Settings › Appearance & language › About you. On the website, open Settings from the menu under your photo and find the About you card.
Pick your gender
Choose Male, Female, Other or Prefer not to say.
Set your date of birth
Pick the day, month and year.
Save
Tap Continue. You'll see Saved.

Can other people see my date of birth on Zinola?

No. Your gender and date of birth are private and never shown on your profile.

Why does Zinola need my date of birth?

To check you're at least 13, to wish you on your birthday, and to word the app to you if you choose the Friendly style.

Do I have to tell Zinola my gender?

No. You can choose Prefer not to say.
