Muting silences one thing without touching the rest of your notifications. You can mute a post, a personal chat, a group in a circle, or a whole circle.
Mute a chat, a group or a circle
When you mute, choose how long: For 8 hours, For 1 week or Always.

The chat or circle shows Muted, or Muted until a time.Undo it any time
Open the same menu and tap Unmute.

What muting does
- No sound and no banner for new messages.
- The chat or circle leaves your unread badge. Unread messages still show when you open it.
- An @-mention of you still notifies.
- Muting a whole circle quiets every group in it.
Marketplace and business chats can't be muted. See Mute a chat.
Mute a post
Posts are different: you stop following them.
- In the app: open the post, tap ⋯, and turn off Notify me about replies.
- On the website: tap Stop notifications for this post.
You'll no longer hear about new replies. See Follow a post or stop its notifications.
Common questions
How do I mute a Zinola group chat?
Press and hold the group in the circle and tap Mute, then choose For 8 hours, For 1 week or Always.
Will I still be notified if someone mentions me in a muted chat?
Yes. An @-mention of you still notifies, even when the chat or circle is muted.
Does the other person know I muted our chat?
No. Muting only changes what you hear. Nobody is told.
