Updated

A small label at the top of a story tells you how the review came in. A separate mark shows when Zinola itself has looked into it. They mean different things, so it's worth knowing which is which.

The labels on a review

LabelWhat it means
VerifiedThe business sent this customer a personal, one-time review link. So the business itself is confirming the job happened.
User reviewA neighbor's first-hand account that Zinola hasn't checked. Most reviews carry this label.
VouchedThe business was named approvingly by neighbors on the street.

Checked by Zinola

Checked by Zinola is a separate mark. It means our team has looked into this particular review. A review can have both a label and this mark, for example User review and Checked by Zinola.

Checked by Zinola is not the same as Verified. Verified means the business vouched for the customer. Checked by Zinola means we looked.

Don't mix these up with the business's tick

A business page can also show a verified tick next to its name, with the words Verified business. That's about the business, not about any review: it means we checked the business and that it belongs to the person running the page. See What's on a business page.

Other things you might see on a story

  • Anonymous or Someone near you: the writer chose to hide their name. See Post a review anonymously.
  • Updated with a date: the writer shared a new experience, and their earlier review is below it as Previous review.
  • Owner or Replied: the business owner has replied.
  • Visited with a date: when the writer used the business.

What the labels don't mean

No label is for sale. Nobody can pay Zinola to get a badge, to move a review up, or to have a review taken down.

Business owners can read more in Review badges and the six ratings.
