A shout-out no longer comes with a comment box. Tapping the 📣 megaphone gives the shout-out and nothing else. To add your own words, reply to the post, or repost it with your thoughts.
Give the shout-out
Tap the 📣 megaphone on the post. See Give a shout-out.Add your words as a reply
Open the post and write in the reply box. Your reply is public under the post, and the writer is notified.Or repost it with your thoughts
Tap Share › Repost and write in Add your thoughts (optional). That makes a new post of yours that quotes the original. See Repost something.
Which one to use
| You want to… | Use |
|---|---|
| Pass the post on to your followers, with no words | Shout-out |
| Say something to the writer and everyone reading the post | Reply |
| Say something to your own area, with the post attached | Repost |
| Send it to a friend or a circle with a note | Share, then Add a note |
You can do more than one. A shout-out and a reply together pass the post on and add your words under it.
Older shout-out comments
Before the comment box was removed, a shout-out could carry a short comment. Those comments are still under their posts, as replies marked Shouted out.
- Edit or delete one from its ⋯ menu, like any reply. See Edit or delete a post.
- Take back the shout-out and the comment stays, as a plain reply without the badge.
- People can react to a shout-out comment, the same as to any reply.
