A shout-out boosts someone's post, story or listing so the people who follow you see it on their Home. It doesn't copy the post or create a new one; it passes the original on, with your name on it.
Find the megaphone
It's the 📣 megaphone in the row of buttons under a post, story or listing, on Home and on its own page.Tap it
The megaphone blasts, Shouted! rises off it and the count goes up by one. In the app your phone gives a short buzz. That's it
There's no box to fill in and no message. Your followers can now see it with your name on it.
The first time you tap it, a bubble explains: “Boosts this post. People who follow you may see it in their feed.” Tap Got it and the shout-out is given.
Where you'll find it
| In the app | On the website | |
|---|---|---|
| Posts | 📣 on every card and on the post screen | 📣 on feed cards; Shout out on the post page |
| Stories (reviews) | 📣 on story cards and the story screen | 📣 on the story page |
| Listings | 📣 on listing cards and the listing screen | 📣 on marketplace cards and the listing page |
You can't shout out events, replies, comments or circle chat messages.
Who sees it
- Your followers. For about a week after you give it, the post, story or listing can appear on their Home with a line such as “Priya gave this a shout-out”, or “Priya and 2 others gave this a shout-out” when several people they follow did. A few of these are mixed into each page of their feed.
- Only people who could already see it. A shout-out never widens who can open something. A listing shown only in certain circles still only reaches followers who are in those circles.
- The writer. They get one notification per post, story or listing, such as “Gave your post a shout-out”, grouped however many people give one.
- Everyone. The count is public, and so is the list of who gave one. See Take back a shout-out and see who gave one.
Nobody sees a shout-out card for something they wrote themselves.
What else it does
- On a post, you follow it, so you hear about new replies. See Follow a post.
- A post with shout-outs from at least two people in the past week can be pinned to the top of Home, marked Most shouted out.
- In the app, Home's Most thanked sort puts the posts with the most shout-outs first. See Filter and sort your Home feed.
What you can't shout out
- Your own post, story or listing. On yours, the megaphone only shows the count, once there is one.
- Something by a person you've blocked, or who has blocked you.
- A listing that has ended or was removed.
- You can give one shout-out per thing. Tapping again takes it back.
If you're signed out, tapping the megaphone takes you to log in first.
