Updated

Anyone with a Zinola account can host a public event for their area, either as themselves or as a business they run. It takes two short steps, and neighbors can then say they're coming.

  1. Start a new event

In the app, tap + › Plan an event, or tap Host an event on What's on. On the website, open Events and choose Host an event.
  2. Choose who's hosting

Under Host as, pick yourself or a business you own or help run.
  3. 1 · The event

Give it a name, pick a category, then choose when and where: the day, the start time and the area. A venue, such as “Block C terrace”, and a cover photo are optional.
  4. 2 · Details

Add a few lines about it, the entry price, how many spots there are and who it's good for. Everything here is optional.
  5. Tap Post event

Your event goes up on its own page, and neighbors can start answering.

The Post button stays off until the event has a name, a day and an area, and the start hasn't passed. On the website, a missing one shows Fill in the name, the date and the area.

Zinola doesn't take payments for paid events, so collect them yourself.

The cover is cut to a different shape on each screen. The event page on the website trims the top and bottom, the app's event screen trims the left and right, and a shared link shows a tall slice from the middle. Keep faces, the main thing and any text in the centre, and they stay in every version. More in Photo sizes that look best.

Who can see it

An event you host this way is public. Anyone can open it, and it's listed for the area you picked. For a private get-together, start it inside a circle chat instead. See Events inside a circle.

After posting, keep an eye on Questions for the host and who's coming. Businesses can also post from the business app: see Post an event.

Common questions

Can I host an event as my business on Zinola?
Yes. Under Host as, pick a business you own or help run. The event then shows your business page as the host.
Can I make an event private?
Events hosted from Plan an event or the Events page are always public. For a private event, start it inside a circle chat, where only that circle can see it.
What do I need to fill in to host an event?
Only the event name, the day and start time, and the area. Everything else, including the venue, photo and price, is optional.
How many photos can I add to an event?
One cover photo when you create it. It's shown at the top of the event page and on its card.
What size should my event cover photo be?
Landscape, 16:9, ideally 1920 × 1080 pixels. Keep the important part in the middle, because each screen trims a different edge.
